The first real indication that you are on holiday is when
you blow up the rib. We were on a pontoon in the middle of the river with no
access to shore, so the rib was essential. Bob did the honours and shortly we
were heading towards the marina; three men in a boat.
As expected the marina office was closed; we need to pay for
a couple of nights stay. It was supposed to be open – but of course this is
France, so we headed up through the park to town. Tregier is a very pretty town
dominated by the cathedral (with a lacy spire) with a number of shops around
the town square. Most were closed; but there was a coffee shop open. We
wandered around the town picking up some essentials like lots of bread, croissant.
There is lovely wet fish shop tucked in the lanes behind the cathedral. We were
greeted with a question about the English in Marseilles – we were in no
position to defend ourselves. Anyway he was very nice and took us through all
the fish choices there. We ended up with three fat mackerel minus the bits.

We found another café this time for a beer. As we walked
back towards the boat the heavens opened and we were forced to take refuge in a
pizzeria. Lunch was sorted. Having consumed all that was possible in Tregier
we found the marina man (back from his siesta?) paid an unreasonable amount to
be tied to a bit of wood floating in the river and soaked ourselves returning
to Liquid Asset. Another successful day out.
We spent a leisurely afternoon on the boat, David and Bob
returning to town to top up the wine supplies (running low already?) plus rabbit pate, and quiche. For tea
was mackerel of course. Delightful.
